Mistral Large

The mistral-large-latest alias now resolves to Mistral Large 3 (mistral-large-2512), released December 2, 2025, and it is a different product from the Large 2 generation this page once described. It is an open-weight, general-purpose multimodal mixture-of-experts with 675 billion total parameters and 41 billion active, released under Apache 2.0, with a 256K context window and pricing of $0.50 per million input tokens and $1.50 output, a quarter of the old $2 and $6 rate. Mistral Large 2.1 was retired on May 31, 2026. One positioning note: Mistral now describes Mistral Medium 3.5, released April 28, 2026 at $1.50 and $7.50, as its frontier-class agentic and coding model, so Large 3 reads best as the cheap open-weight generalist in the lineup rather than the top of it.
